Global Styrofoam Market Outlook to 2030 – With Knauf Insulation, Kingspan and Synthos Among Others | News
DUBLIN, February 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The “Polystyrene Foam Market by Product and End-Use Industry: Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2021-2030” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.comit is offer.
Styrofoam is a semi-finished product made from styrene and is used in a variety of insulation, shipping protection and flotation applications. Polystyrene foams are of two types: expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) and extruded polystyrene foam (XPS). EPS is a closed-cell rigid thermoplastic foam material produced from solid beads of polystyrene by gas expansion. The gas expands when heat in the form of vapor is applied, forming closed cells of EPS.
Extruded polystyrene (XPS) thermal insulation board is a rigid foam board with a closed cell structure and is produced in a fully automated continuous extrusion process. Its unique properties of high compressive strength, higher R-value and low water absorption make it an ideal insulation material for roofs, walls and floors.
EPS has a more cellular structure and fragments into individual beads when broken. XPS has a more closed cell structure, and when examined closely, it is possible to differentiate EPS from XPS. EPS foam thermal insulation sheets have a wide range of applications in the construction industry.
Applications include use in ceilings and walls of buildings and pipes to insulate heat. In buildings, thermal insulation is essential to reduce the energy costs of HVAC systems. When a building is properly thermally insulated, there is less or no thermal energy transfer through the building, which keeps the building at the occupant’s preferred temperature. Thus, polystyrene foam insulation is used by building constructors to regulate the internal temperature of a building. EPS foam is also used in the thermal insulation of refrigeration cabinets. In addition to boards and insulation boards, polystyrene foam moldings are used in food and non-food packaging and other storage applications.
Current demand for insulation board and board, increase in building construction, increased emphasis on thermal insulation and demand for packaging products are some of the key drivers for the polystyrene foam market . The demand for construction materials is increasing with the rise of urbanization and industrialization.
Country in Asia and Africa such as China, Indiaand South Africa represent a significant growth opportunity for building insulation materials. Governments in developing countries are focused on improving the quality of housing and must meet building energy codes. Strict energy codes mandate the use of proper thermal insulation, creating a massive demand for insulation boards and panels made from EPS and XPS foams.
The demand for non-food packaging such as electronics and electrical appliances has also increased in recent years, due to the increased penetration of online retailers such as Amazon and Flipkart. On the other hand, the global food and beverage market is growing rapidly and is supported by strong consumer demand for processed foods. Lifestyle changes have increased the demand for food packaging in the food processing and food service sectors. All these factors have increased the demand for polystyrene foam in the packaging industry.
Being a petrochemical, the prices of polystyrene and its related products are controlled by petrochemical demand and supply. Thus, fluctuations in demand caused by plant closures will tend to increase the price of polystyrene foam. This is expected to hamper the market demand as users tend to opt for more stable materials such as polymers. Additionally, polystyrene is difficult to break down after disposal, creating an environmental concern. These factors are limiting the growth of the Global Polystyrene Foam Market.
Polystyrene foam products can be shaped into any desired shape and size and have a variety of applications other than packaging and building insulation that could provide lucrative opportunities for market growth. For example, in marine and fishing applications, EPS foam has become one of the primary materials for constructing floats and buoys. A similar increase in demand for EPS is expected from aquaculture and agriculture. These applications are niche and are expected to drive the demand for polystyrene foam products over the forecast period.
The global polystyrene foam market is segmented into product, end-use industry, and region. By product, the market is split into EPS and XPS. By end-use industry, the market is categorized into packaging, building & construction, and others. By region, it is analyzed through North America, Europe, Asia Pacificand LAMEA.
MAJOR PLAYERS engaged in polystyrene foam production include Alpek, BASF SE, ChovA, Drew Foam, DuPont, Kingspan Group, Knauf Insulation, Sunpor Kunststoff GmbH, Synthos SA and Xella International.
