Open letter for those going to Wegmans today or tomorrow

The holidays have long been over now, as we all try to get back to the rhythm of a five-day workweek and prepare for the coming winter and gloomy weeks.

The holidays have seen some crazy scenes at local Wegmans stores here in western New York City, which is not uncommon. It’s common for people to buy Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner / party items and it gets very hectic to say the least.

In case you haven’t heard it yet, it’s pretty crazy weather for Buffalo and parts of western New York City. A Winter storm watch is in effect Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. through Thursday evening for the counties of Erie, Wyoming and Genesee.

Snowfall totals could reach 18 inches and more in the most persistent snow bands and the city of Buffalo and southern cities appear to be the hardest hit by this lake-effect snowstorm.

This likely means that Wegmans will be crowded with people trying to buy basic necessities and supplies, such as toilet paper, eggs, milk, sliced bread, etc. Certainly between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. today and tomorrow should be very busy. .

If you go to Wegmans or any other grocery store in the next 24-36 hours, remember to be kind and patient with the staff at those stores.

Shopping for groceries can be extremely stressful, especially when it has to be in a rush, in such a short time frame for busy schedules, but the employees at these local grocery stores do their best under staff constraints.

It’s disappointing to see incidents of arguing and other hostile situations in public places and there’s a good chance it will be hectic with the impending storm.

Let’s be the City of Good Neighbors today and tomorrow and hey, maybe you help another buffalo shovel his sidewalk or dig his car out of a snowbank.
