Standard Bank enables app-based payments at Pick n Pay
Standard Bank has introduced EasyScan, a service that allows customers of the Big Four banks and Pick n Pay to pay for their purchases using the bank’s app.
In a statement, Standard Bank says customers registered on its banking app can scan the QR code at a Pick n Pay checkout point and pay through the app.
He notes that the move not only aims to make payment “quick and easy”, but also allows customers to track their purchases through the mobile banking app.
âAnyone with a Standard Bank account can pay with EasyScan,â explains Kabelo Makeke, head of consumer and high net worth clients at Standard Bank SA. âDownload the Standard Bank mobile banking app to use this simple, cardless and secure payment method. Standard Bank’s mobile banking app is also zero-rated, which means customers can pay for their purchases even if they don’t have any data.
In August, Standard Bank announced its partnership with Pick n Pay to roll out in-store branches in selected stores of the retail giant.
The bank notes that in-store branches combine the benefits of digital and physical banking services, enabling on-demand access to financial services that become part of a customer’s daily routine.
âEasyScan allows customers to pay for their purchases directly from their banking application. This means that they can continue shopping, even if they have left their wallet at home. With EasyScan, all purchases are reflected immediately on the statement, making it easy for customers to track available funds.
John Bradshaw, Omnichannel Manager at Pick n Pay, concludes, âOur customers love convenience, and EasyScan innovation is another way to enhance their shopping experience. They don’t need to keep their cash and cards with them, and they don’t make any contact during the transaction.
